Yoga and Health = Pujya Gurudev

Yoga & Holistic Health
=Pt.ShriRam Sharma Acharya
Ayurveda, the ancient Indian medical - science is believed to be the oldest repository of diagnostic, pharmaceutical and therapeutic knowledge. This Vedic science draws upon an integral approach to healthcare by considering the physical, mental and deep emotional well being simultaneously.
It encompasses thorough knowledge of the Adhibhautik (physical, pertaining to the gross body), Adhidaivik (mental, emotional and pranic, pertaining to the subtle body) and Adhyatmik (spiritual, pertaining to the astral body) aspects of health. No other branch of ancient or modern disciplines of medical sciences, perhaps, has such deep and expanded foundations as Ayurveda has.
This ancient science of medicine enfolds the secrets of youthful longevity and is therefore also referred as a comprehensive science of happy and hearty life. The preventive and remedial measures derived under Ayurveda deal with multidimensional complexities and problems of human life and provide solutions in perfect harmony with Nature.

How to Protect Environment= Pujya Gurudev

Protection of Environment
=Pt.ShriRam Sharma Acharya
The huge industrial complexes, rapid urbanization, deforestation, air and water pollution, ozone-depletion, radioactive wastes etc., have disturbed and destabilized the natural harmony of human, animal and plant life cycles. The ecological imbalance caused by these criminal acts of the so called ‘civilized man’ has resulted in a disastrous threat, not only to the human survival, but also to life as a whole on our planet. Yagya has been found to be a viable cure for the ecological imbalance. Experimental studies have shown that Yagya or agnihotra creates a pure, hygienic, nutritional and healing atmosphere. Researchers from the field of microbiology have observed that the medicinal fumes emanating from the process of agnihotra are bacteriostatic in nature, i.e. they eradicate bacteria and micro-organisms, which are the root causes of illness and diseases. The following quotes by renowned scientists are noteworthy:

'Burning sugar and its smoke has a significant effect in purifying the atmosphere. It kills the germs of T.B., measles, smallpox and cow-pox' – remarksProf.Tilward.

• A Russian Scientist named Dr. Shirowich mentions – 'if cow’s ghee is put into the fire, its smoke will lessen the effect of atomic radiation to a great extent'.
The following example further illustrates the capability of yagna in fighting environmental pollution.
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh, India) Gas Tragedy and Agnihotra
The tragic incident occurred on the night of December 3, 1984 when the poisonous MIC gas leaked from Union Carbide factory at Bhopal. Hundreds of people died and thousands were hospitalized, but there were two families – those of Shri Sohan Lal S. Khushwaha and Shri M. L. Rathore, living about one mile away from the plant, who came out unscathed. These families were regularly performing
agnihotra (havan). In these families nobody died, nobody was even hospitalized despite being present in the area worst affected by the leakage of the toxic gas. This observation implies that agnihotra is a proven antidote to pollution. (English Daily –
'The Hindu' of 4th May 1985; news item under the heading ‘Vedic Way to Beat Pollution’.)

Everyone is aware of the disasters of deforestation. The only solution to this crisis is to create an awareness and enthusiasm in the people to plant more and more trees. All World Gayatri Pariwar is running programs for planting trees in several districts of India.

·  Life is ‘time’, those who love life should not waste it in laziness.
·  Realize your worth and believe that you are uniquely made by the almighty in the world.
·  Being ignorant is not that shameful as lack of eagerness to learn.
·  The identity of a civilized man is his modesty: hard on the self and soft on others.
·  God’s love is reserved only for virtuous and responsible persons.
·  The most wretched person is one who does not have self-control.
·  Man is not the slave of circumstances. He is the creator, controller and master of them.
·  It is possible to reform a person not by ridicule but by giving him an opportunity to think afresh and change himself.
·  One becomes what one thinks and does.
·  Not riches, but nobility of character and honesty are the true touchstones of greatness.
·  Don’t praise them, who earned their fortunes by unfair means.
·  A family knit together, by bonds of loving cooperation and mutual understanding, is a living model of heaven on earth.
·  There are only two ways to be happy: minimize your needs; and harmonize with the circumstances.
·  A man does not get tired by the enormity of work but by considering it as a burden and doing it irregularly.
·  Try to be humane. If you succeed in it, you will succeed everywhere.
·  The plant of personality grows when it gets a fertilizer of virtues and the watering of honesty.
·  There is nothing wrong if people praise you for good deeds; but the danger lies ahead if you do something in order to get praise.
·  If you wish to gift something to someone, then give the best gift of encouragement that can awaken one’s self-confidence.
·  A man is free to do anything; but there is no choice regarding the selection of its consequences.
·  Nobility is available free of cost, but everything can be acquired through it.

About Soul = Pujya Gurudev

About Soul
=Pt.ShriRam Sharma Acharya
A sincere and serious seeker of Truth, Nachiketa, inquires Yamaraj, The Lord of Death. "Yeyam prate vicikitsa manushye, Astityeke nayastiti caike Aitad vidya manushishtas twaya ham Varanamesh varastritiyah" .. Kathopanishad 1/20"Oh Lord! Some people say soul exists, some say this body itself is the soul; while others say that soul does not exist after death. Please tell me  what is the truth? This is my third boon you have promised to grant me". Like Nachiketa, any human being, who has deeply involved himself in Tapa-Sadhana, Yoga or long-term meditation and contemplation practices but has not yet realized his immortal self-identity, remains in this inquisitive state. Does the soul exist or not?
Vedant. 31/3/54. "That is "Body and soul are not one and the same. In the absence of the soul, body can not have perception of anything". The principles regarding the immortality of the soul and its independent existence apart from the body that were propounded by our sages are now getting validated on the touchstone of science. In this connection, great significance is being attached to the living cells forming the body. Dr. Stanley and his colleagues of the Rockefeller Institute of America have done rigorous research to find....( To be Countinue)

Key to Success in All Endeavors= Pujya Gurudev

Mastery of the Mind - Key to Success in All Endeavors
=Pt.ShriRam Sharma Acharya
The materialistic world has its own operational laws. But the reactions of human mind are not entirely determined by the material events and objects. The configuration of human consciousness and the plane of awareness too play a role in the quality of our interactions on the material plane. Thus, the domain of collective human mind is not simply a subtle reflection of the external world. Instead, it is a strange world of its own - with its layers of conscious, subconscious and super conscious levels. It is the refinement of this multi-layered field that is the object of sadhana. This refinement and sublimation of the mind brings about a sea-change in our outlook of the material world. The power of a refined and sublimated mind also makes an impact on the materialistic world.
The process of this transformation has been called the sadhana of Manomaya Kosha. The students studying with concentration pass the examination with good grades. Attentive farmers harvest a good crop. Enthusiastic wrestlers win titles in wrestling. Mind filled with wisdom and alertness proves to be an asset in achieving success in business. It is the refined and focused mind that helps in achieving siddhi (success) in sadhana. Devoted artists keep the audiences spellbound. The achievements in different fields depend on the intensity of will power, concentration and deep involvement (all qualities of a mastered mind) in set goals. In spite of the similarity of assets and means, different results are observed with the difference in the degree of mental mastery.
Inert objects have only existence. Life is of different and higher level of manifestation. That is why the rules of life and that of inert objects are different. Inert objects do not have any independent will power. On the other hand, the entire development of life has been made possible due to the impact of will power. It is the higher quality of will power that especially distinguishes human beings from sub-human life forms. A human being is considered the master of well-developed consciousness, because his will power is more active and effective. It is the enlightened will power that leads a person from darkness to light, from mortality to immortality and from falsehood to truth.
Strong and focused will power definitely produces the desired results. It has been said in Yogavashishtha- Di habhavanaya cheto yadyatha bhavayatyalam Tattatphalam tadakaram tavatmanam prapashyati. (Yogavashishtha 4/21/56)

Unique Spiritual Practice= Pujya Gurudev

Unique Spiritual Practice
=Pt.ShriRam Sharma Acharya
Despite accepting the vital role of thoughts and emotions in the shaping of personality, so far the psychologists have not been able to discover an effective solution against the complexities of the mental and emotional world hidden inside; neither, they are able to provide a definite method for improvement or positive orientation of attitude.
The Upanishads seem to hold the key to this unfolded science and are therefore regarded by many as the source of complete knowledge on deep psychology. In these – especially in the Shvetashwar Upanishad, the Vedic Rishis have described a universal method for allaying the conflicts and complications in the mental and emotional domains, healing and strengthening of the delicate roots of consciousness and inculcating positive orientation and enlightenment. This method – invented, taught and successfully practiced by the rishis – could be described in one word as “Upasana”.

Convert Liability into Asset= Pujya Gurudev

Convert Liability into Asset
=Pt.ShriRam Sharma Acharya
The fall and decline of people’s thinking, character and conduct and the rising pollution, corruption and weakening of personality seen today can be checked and controlled only by the practice of upasana by each one of us. This simple but universally applicable solution would also gradually reverse the present trends and produce healthy, hearty and virtuous personalities.
Upasana (recognition of divinity within), in one form or the other, has been an integral part of the lives of the saints, seers and sages of the ancient and the modern times the world over. They have set a live example of how this practice could lead to successive strengthening, enlightenment and even divine transmutation of personality.
The philosophy and science of this devotional method contain all the elements of mental and emotional refinement at the individual and the collective levels. The golden path of resolving the complexities of the personal, professional and social life and ushering into an era of peace and happiness is open for all of us. It is up to us, how soon we start following it?

Knowledge Temples= Pujya Gurudev

Knowledge Temples
=Pt.ShriRam Sharma Acharya
With Education and human resource taking centre stage terms like K-Commerce (Knowledge Commerce), which is the trading of knowledge in a variety of forms using electronic networks, Knowledge Management becoming common. Some Industries now even have Chief Knowledge Officer (CKO).

Unlike capital and labour, knowledge strives to be a public good, beneficial to all . Once knowledge is discovered and made public, there is zero marginal cost to sharing it with more users. Secondly, the creator of knowledge finds it hard to prevent others from using it. Instruments such as trade secrets protection and patents, copyright, and trademarks provide the creator with some protection.

Know-why and know-who matters more than know-what. There are different kinds of knowledge that can usefully be distinguished. Know-what, or knowledge about facts, is nowadays diminishing in relevance. Know-why is knowledge about the natural world, society, and the human mind. Know-who refers to the world of social relations and is knowledge of who knows what and who can do what.

The demand and supply side of human resource development, particularly in education requires that students must want to learn and willing to make the sacrifices required. The parents need to see the value of being supportive. And on top of these issues, we need ideal teachers who can impart not only education but also 'real knowledge
knowledge about the human potential, duties, purpose of life, how to tackle problems related with professional, social and spiritual life.'

To make our educational institutions new Knowledge Temples, it is necessary that all the three elements must be aligned in such a way that acquiring and practicing various aspects of knowledge may prove to be beneficial to all, a practice prevailing in ancient India with Guru – Shishya Parampara and with great centres of learning like Nalanda, Taxila, Vikram Shila etc.

The establishment of Dev Sanskriti University at Haridwar by Gayatri Pariwar is an important step towards the revival of ancient Rishi tradition and create new Knowledge Temples in modern world.

Knowledge Economy= Pujya Gurudev

Knowledge Economy
=Pt.ShriRam Sharma Acharya
The Primary Phase : The last two centuries witnessed sea change in human social and economic activities. The primary phase of economic activities till the early mid 18th century, gave way to the secondary phase of economic development when the Industrial revolution took place.

   The Secondary Phase
: Along with their scars, the two world wars gave us the technology that helped human society to shift focus from primary economic activities like agriculture and handy-craft to secondary phase of automated machinery and mass production.

   The Tertiary Phase
:With the advent of IT and internet, a new phase of economy started to take shape, by this time economic activities evolved to its tertiary phase with services industry at the apex of new developments.

Knowledge Economy : Now we are entering the fourth phase of economic development , when the emphasis is going to shift from Services to Knowledge. The main driving force being the fact that - knowledge is more important than ever before as an input “sidelining both capital and labor”.

Corporate Culture in Ancient India= Pujya Gurudev

Corporate Culture in Ancient India
=Pt.ShriRam Sharma Acharya
Ever since the ancient times human beings lived and survived as a society. The trait of co-operation has contributed more than anything else to the present highly developed stage of civilisation. The decline in the Indian society during and after the medieval age owes a lot to the unorganized fragmented society. But the things were quite different in the past, knows as golden age of Indian Civilization. The harmonious cooperation between various sections of the society, in political, social and religious matters was remarkable.
The Indian society of yore was ideal in several respects. The flow of noble tendencies in the society used to help cultivate auspicious virtues in the people since their childhood…. The system of Shodash Sanskars devised by the Rishis was a perfect mode of psychological conditioning for appropriate nurturing, development and orientation of these tendencies. Thus, almost every family was producing divinely refined personalities and every sphere of knowledge and development – ranging from the science of spirituality to the science of matter, agriculture to literature, health and education to religion and culture etc, was blessed by excellent talents.

That was the time when India was recognized as a universal guide, super civilized and enlightened nation. The treasure of knowledge and all round prosperity here had attracted people from all corners of the globe. This land was like the best place of pilgrimage and a global centre of excellence for the whole world. The principle of
“Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” – treating the whole world as a single large family, was adopted in every walk of life.

In the ancient times, the sadhus and brahmins used to devote their lives for selfless service of the society. Whole world was like a family for them. Every living being was dear to them…. Such was the influence of religious inspirations that the Grihastha – married couples engaged in the transaction of worldly duties, too used to dedicate precious amount of their time and material resources for altruist purposes and used to participate in the mass education programmes. Materialistic, mental and spiritual progress of the fellow beings was desired by every citizen of India…. Selfishness and possessive mentality had no place in the society those days…. This marvellous inculcation of religious disciplines in people’s minds and sentimental cores had bestowed the honor of “better than heavens…” on the Indian society of the Vedic Age. This was the time when every inhabitant of this land was endowed with divine qualities. Which is why India was described in the scriptures as the land where 33 billion manifestations of God came into existence…..”

It is a pity that a sizable fraction of the Indian society today is still living in the state of ignorance and religious misconceptions influenced in the medieval era. Over eight million fake sadhus and swamis are flourishing on the alms offered by such people in the name of religion. The word Brahmin has become a symbol of castism… The sadhus have exploited people’s faith and abandoned the liberation and rise of the present state of Indian society from the sorry state of cultural slavery and religious corruption…. Even many of the learned and materialistically progressive and forward looking people are seen wandering around some of the rich and mighty sadhus of this category….

The sadhus and Brahmins (sages and saintly scholars) of the ancient Indian society used to constantly tour around different parts of the country for the noble purpose of social welfare and development via educating the people through the multi-disciplinary system of religion. An altruist service of this kind is needed for lasting peace and progress in modern human society as well. Actually this is the ideal kind of sanyasa (literally meaning renunciation of worldly attachments for holy purposes) that could be easily adopted by people who have fulfilled their responsibilities towards their dependents.

Psychosomatic Ailments= Pujya Gurudev

Psychosomatic Ailments
=Pt.ShriRam Sharma Acharya
This has been proven medically that symptoms of around 80% diseases of our times are caused by mental processes rather than some physiological causes. 80% Popularly known as life-style disorders, these syndromes are classified as neurotic, stress-related and somatoform disorders by the World Health Organization.

Man is a social animal. The progress of humanity is the progress of human beings as a society, not of anyone or some individuals. With rapid industrialization and scientific advances we are becoming more and more self-centered and slaves to modern gudgets. Moreover the urban setup restricts everyday interaction with nature. On top of that TV with hundreds of channels, internet, Video games, mobile etc. discourage real human interaction and sharing of light moments with family and group. The stressed executive of today tends to neglect family in order to meet deadlines.

Unfortunately, despite the so-called progress and achievements of past few decades, human nature remained the same. Everyone of us still wants the attention of others, look for appreciation of our accomplishments and find inner satisfaction in helping others, uplifting others, long for honesty and integrity.

So, life not in communion with basic human nature is the root cause of the stressed society of today and giving rise to more and more psychosomatic ailments.

Ethics
=Pt.ShriRam Sharma Acharya
Enron, WorldCom& other recent debacles subsequently gave birth to the ethics consulting industry.

Necessity for managers & leaders to behave ethically, foster holistic approach in decision making.

Ethics is the systematic study of voluntary actions which make up everyday conduct and behaviors of Human Beings. It can be descriptive or normative.

Promotion of ethics in business :
Ethics in business is considered as a oxymoron in corporate culture today. However like association of Holy Ganges with Great Himalayas, which perennially feeds Ganges and kept it flowing since time immemorail, ethics in business and spirituality in day to day life are the distinct sources of sustainable development.

Wisdom= Pujya Gurudev

Discriminatory Wisdom
=Pt.ShriRam Sharma Acharya
The greatest success in life is to attain discriminatory wisdom. When one develops the ability to differentiate between the genuine and the sham, good and bad, one becomes aware about the real and true aim of life. With the awakening of the power of discrimination, one gets rid of worries, sorrows, fear, apprehension, attachment, loss etc., which are all created due to ignorance.

The aspiration to trade the path of righteousness and develop discriminatory wisdom creates an ever expanding vibration in the universal realm which attracts and assimilates waves of righteous thoughts, emotions and inspirations pervading the subtle atmosphere. The magnetic power of thoughts is well-known. Thoughts attract thoughts of similar kind. Powerful eternal thoughts start accumulating spontaneously as a divine boon and the accumulated capital of such thoughts goes on increasing.

The effect of this influx of righteousness in the body and mind is amazing. This is not visible to the naked eye nor can it be understood from purely physical point of view. But those who are endowed with the occult knowledge of the working of the inner being know it well that decrease in the elements of
tam and raj and increase in sat is almost similar to the steady process of elimination of disease producing toxins, viruses and germs from the body and replacing them with health-giving rejuvenating cells.

Other people are also benefited by the virtues thus cultivated like service-mindedness, politeness, generosity, philanthropy, honesty, benevolence etc. and there is no apprehension of any harm being done to anybody by him. The result is that out of gratitude for his unconditional service people become his admirers, friends and defenders. On account of this mutual goodwill, life becomes exceedingly blissful.

Paradigms of Culture= Pujya Gurudev

Paradigms of Culture
=Pt.ShriRam Sharma Acharya
The word “culture” nowadays is used in so many peripheral contexts that its original meaning seems to have lost its relevance. For example, we have a “popular culture”, by which is meant the collective human intellectual achievements. There is a “consumerist culture”, which is taken by some as a determinant of the status of a person along with his formal educational success and financial strength. To be an integral part of this culture, one has to have a higher spending power, which yields a greater availability of materialistic pleasures and facilities.
To many of us culture simply comprises of the genesis and creative expansions of traditional styles and forms of dance, music and art and may be some social, customs.

We also hear of an “
emerging culture”, which reflects the attitudes and the behavioural characteristic of a particular social group or media-oriented socialites. An emerging drug or pub culture among the youngsters of today is an example relating to this. Another familiar example of this kind is what one refers these days as “corporate culture” that includes a “competitive culture” and a culture of advertisement that help modern industries to strive (may be stressfully) their best and also to market their best.

However, such narrow or adhoc interpretations of
“culture” in no way justify its inseparable existence with the history and civilization of mankind. Neither can its relevance and scope be hashed off under the pretext of superficial definitions. So vast are the folds of culture that it embraces almost every horizon of our existence.

Understanding Spirituality= Pujya Gurudev

Understanding Spirituality
=Pt.ShriRam Sharma Acharya
Spirituality in real sense is Inculcating and imbibing Virtues and Divine qualities.

Refinement of personality based on higher and nobler dimensions of Self. Corporate world is struggling to understand the place of spirituality at work and its implications. Our inner potential can be best gauged only by broadening our understanding of our surroundings and nature of our inner being. Acknowledging and giving prominence to eternity of soul in each and every
karma is Spirituality.

Spiritual principals are universal and pertain to pure consciousness and harnessing of inner potential. In fact spirituality forms the core of all religions.

Spirituality deals with enlightening one’s thoughts, emotions and intrinsic tendencies. In simple terms it is the most evolved and comprehensive science of psychological, sociological and moral development, and ultimate progress. It brightens the intellect together with inculcation of sensitivity towards fellow beings and towards the grace of Nature.
There is no place for superstitions, fantasy or escapism in a truly spiritual life. Spiritual progress in no way blocks scientific and materialistic progress. In fact, it gives altruistic touch and prudent directions to both so that progress will not be focused only towards increase in luxurious comforts and worldly profits; it will not enrich and empower only some privileged ones.
Scientific and materialistic progress guided by spirituality would lead to a holistic growth whose benefits would reach out to the whole of humanity and which will not result in any counter-effects in future. Spirituality can and should be adopted on every front of life for elevating happiness and illuminating the future.
