Thoughts Promote Radiant Health= Pujya Gurudev

Thought Power
Thoughts Promote Radiant Health
                                                                 =Pt.ShriRam Sharma Acharya

The body is internally associated with the mind, rather the body is a counterpart of the mind; it is a gross visible form of the subtle, invisible mind. If there is pain in the tooth or in the stomach or in the ear, the mind is at once affected. It ceases to think properly; it is agitated, disturbed and perturbed. If there is depression in the mind, the body also cannot function properly. The pains which afflict the body are called the secondary diseases, Vyadhi, while the Vasanas or desires that afflict the mind are termed mental or primary diseases, Adhi. Mental health is more important than physical health. If the mind is healthy, the body will necessarily be healthy. If the mind is pure, if your thoughts are pure, you will be free from all diseases primary and secondary. “Mens sana in corpore sano—a sound mind in a sound body.’’

Thoughts attract thoughts of similar kind=Pt.ShriRam Sharma Acharya

Thought Power
Thoughts attract thoughts of similar kind
                                                            =Pt.ShriRam Sharma Acharya

Accumulation of similar or compatible elements appears to be the law of Nature. This is what accounts for formation of seas and oceans. Individually the metal particles lie unnoticed in the soil. However, wherever they are gathered, their force of affinity compounds exponentially and leads to formation of huge repository of that particular substance. The gigantic mines of metals and minerals evince this fact. Similar is the case with superposing of sound waves etc. The cycle of their circular motion and recurrence with further superimposition of similar thought waves creates a subtle energy field in the etheric expansion that widens and affects more and more people having even slightest receptivity to those thoughts, with its larger and sharper reach.
This is why the books we read, the ambience we live in most of the time, or the people we interact with, indirectly influence our thinking and tendencies. This is how the company of drunkards produces more drunkards, that of thieves makes others thieves and so on; this is how criminals form stout gangs. This is how the inspiring proximity of saints, great personalities, or sagacious thoughts enlightens and elevates many others.
What kinds of thought waves influence one and to what extent? This depends upon what his mind is prepared for and what are its own intrinsic inclinations and aspirations. Radio stations or satellite sites broadcast/transmit varieties of programs, but our radio or television sets receive only those for what they are tuned. Our minds are also like antennas or receiving stations for thought waves they are naturally tuned or vigorously trained for.
Good people with alert mind feel some kind of repulsion from cruel, cunning or debased people; whereas the magnetism of morally pure, elevated and kind-hearted personalities often attracts them. Contrary is the case with people having mental vices, evil characters or perverse tendencies.

Therapeutic benefits of Meditation= Pujya Gurudev

Spirituality
Therapeutic benefits of Meditation
                                    =Pt.ShriRam Sharma Acharya
• Meditation creates a unique hypo metabolic state, in which the metabolism is in an  even deeper state of rest than during sleep.
• During sleep, oxygen consumption drops by 8 percent, but during meditation, it drops by 10 to 20 percent.
• Meditation is the only activity that reduces blood lactate, a marker of stress and anxiety.

Some of the achievements of meditation are :
 •    Enhanced memory
 •    Muscular relaxation
 •    Mental equipoise
 •    Inner calmness
 •    Increased awareness
 •    Cheerfulness all the time
 •    Disappearance of jealousy – lust and other vices
 •    Behavioural modification

The Effect of Recitation of Mantra with Meditation :
According to the science of acoustics, the patterns of sound waves produced by each of the twenty-four letters of the Gayatri Mantra are very special and their combined effect is a source of immense energy.
Significantly, the nerves connected with the components of vocal cord, tongue, palate and fingers used in the japa have more than 60 % representation in the cerebral cortex. The bioelectrical currents generated by the excitation of the nerve cells complete one “neuronal cycle” per recitation and activate the brain with fresh energy.

Enhance your thought power= Pujya Gurudev

Enhance your thought power
        =Pt.Shari Ram Sharma Acharya
                                         (Thought Power)
The functional structure of the brain could be categorized in three parts –– primal (adi) brain, middle (madhya) brain and present (vartmana) brain. The first one may be regarded as the root, the middle one as stem and the third as the branches along with leafs and flowers of the ‘tree’ of brain functions.

The primal brain is endowed with all the knowledge, tendencies and impressions assimilated since the origin of the jivatma (soul) till its birth in the present life. The term ‘middle brain’ refers to the source of manifestation of latent or supernormal powers. The ‘present brain’, as the name suggests, is developed according to the memories, knowledge and conditioning resulted from –– the bio-electrical processes and the perceptions made through exposure to the world, experiences, education, social encounters etc since the embryonic state till the present time.

The three brains are functionally organized one under the other like the layered skin of an onion. The primal brain lies in the innermost core. It is the subtlest but the most prominent of all. It is the original source of consciousness for the development and activation of the other two. The blueprint of the inner character of an individual is stored here. In essence, the seed of one’s personality sprouts from this center.

The number of neurons in a human brain is almost double the human population existing on the earth today. If one second is spent in counting one neuron, it will take 300 centuries to sort all of them in a single brain! These tiny nerve cells have negligible size and weight but each of them could be compared with a complete human being in terms of work potential and highly evolved structure. If the entire human population could be disciplined and motivated to follow righteous path, the world would soon become more beautiful and happier than what could be imagined of the heavens. If all the neurons could be conditioned to function optimally making best use of their latent collective powers, the human brain would certainly manifest divine potentials and supernatural talents....

Because of individual egos and diversities of characters, it may not be possible to control the over 6000 millions of the people inhabiting the earth. However, the population of 10,000 million neurons in one’s own brain could be regulated and gradually conditioned for sublime transformations by a person who has a balanced mind and pure and eminent character and who endeavors to excel his mental potentials with strong will and perseverance. Such endeavors are as difficult, important and glorifying as those of becoming an unchallenged emperor of the entire globe.

Until the last century, extraordinary intelligence and talents were generally attributed to one’s good fortune or divine blessings... Scientific investigations into brain-functions and human psychology have now revealed that such ‘fortunes’ and acumen could be awaken to a great extent by systematic training and endeavors because the brain of every human is endowed with enormous potentials.

Systematic and intensive training enables even animals do what could normally be regarded as impossible for them... One of the research laboratories in Japan has trained monkeys in pattern recognition and arranging the households and office material in proper order. What more! They are even trained in identifying the liars. Experiments are on to see whether the effects of this learning could be transmitted, likewise other natural habits, into the offspring of these trained monkeys...

Training the mind of an individual becomes difficult and attempts of rousing its hidden potentials may be impossible, if he is trapped under the vicious cycle of the malice of ego, arrogance and unchecked ambitions with or without the harmful tendencies of lethargy, despair, aggressive impatience, etc or alcoholic, erogenous and similar addictions..... The mingling of these thraldoms could be broken only if one has an internal desire and strong willpower to do so.

Auto-suggestion, self-introspection and creativity coupled with healthy recreation offer best remedies in depleting the negative tendencies of mind and associated addictions. One should get rid of the inferiority complexes or the feelings of the weaknesses of his mind. If even animals could be made change their natural habits and machines like the computers could be taught then why not a human - the most evolved organism, endowed with so many boons of the mother nature....?

Austerity of living habits, optimistic thinking, stability and purity of mind and emotions and creative industriousness are the preliminary requirements if one wants to progress further in refining his talents. Intensive training and assiduity with unsheltered interest and concentration of mind in a selected area do set the clock in motion and gradually elevated associated intellectual potentials.

Sharp memory supports learning and intellectual development of mind. It has therefore been given primary importance in most of the training methods, including those of the spiritual sadhanas. It is highlighted here that, trenchancy of memory is not always a divine boon or inherited fortune, rather, it could be aroused in every one who adopts a serene, disciplined and balanced mode of life.

The practices of pranayama and dhyana-dharana are integral parts of the initial phase of spiritual sadhanas. Pranayama harmonizes the breathing pattern and triggers maximum supply of oxygen and vital energy to the brain. The scientists of Illinois university and the University of Oregon had conducted series of experiments on breathing habits. They had observed that the children who were not used to deep breathing had lesser memory and intelligence than those in the same age group who used to inhale more oxygen at a regular pace. The effect was more prominent in the elders.

Thoughts Shape our destiny= Pujya Gurudev

Thought Power
Thoughts Shape our destiny
                                                    =Pt.ShriRam Sharma Acharya

Tho We often consider the actions of the body and its five senses as the cause of what makes good or bad karma (destiny). But the shastras (vedic scriptures) also describe a great deal of the effects of mentally committed p³pa (sins) and puñya (noble, ethical deeds) in shaping our future destiny. As we discussed above, our virtuous and evil thoughts indirectly make corresponding contributions in the subtle environment and hence on many others; so these invisible actions of our mind also account for our karma. The more and deeper the involvement of our mind and hence of the inner self in the thoughts, the more intense and lasting would be the impression of the associated karma in the script of our future destiny (which keeps getting inscribed in our unconscious mind). ughts Shape our destiny.

Impressions of thoughts
What induces radiance and force in the thoughts? If the answer is to be crypt, it would be –– the spiritual light and inner force of emotions pertaining to noble ideals. Only the elevated and enlightened emotions of this kind can inspire the flow of virtuous and trenchant thoughts. The altruist sentiments, piety of character and eminence of endeavors of great souls generate corresponding thought waves and thus bestow enormously more benefits upon the world than the noted contributions of their visible deeds. Presence of benevolent sentiments and mental purity in other (ordinary) people also contributes, though invisibly, in the refinement of the subtle world by combining with compatible thought waves in proportion to their strength and intensity. The same is true of the negative effects of the untoward or debased thoughts.
The firm determination and extreme negative psychology of the demonic minds, dreaded criminals and terrorists etc makes the impressions of their perverse thoughts, cruel, scandalous intellectual sharpness quite intense and dense. People with weaker mental makeup are often easily influenced by their thought waves. At times, the resonance of collective thought waves of similar kinds makes them powerful even if they are individually infirm; for example, this is what is happening with erotic thinking these days.
Ability of thoughts
All of the infinitely many kinds of thought waves floating in the subliminal layers of the cosmic expansion may touch every mental body at some point of time, but attract or influence only those that are sensitive or receptive to them or have compatible nature. Unstable (agile), dormant and weak minds do not have any firm tuning and are therefore easily influenced by any kind of thought-waves that have strong force of attraction

Organize your biological clock and reap the benefits=Pujya Gurudev

Organize your biological clock and reap the benefits
                                            =Pt.ShriRam Sharma Acharya
                                                                        (Akhand Jyoti Mar.-April 09)
The daily routine of all creatures is rhythmic. All their daily activities happen at stipulated times. The rhythm at which the activities of life are moderated is called Circadian Rhythm. The term "circadian", coined by Franz Halberg, comes from the Latin circa, "around", and diem or dies, "day", meaning literally "approximately one day." It means that the activities during the 24 hours of the day should be done at regular times. The science of studying this rhythm in activity periodically (e.g. over a week, month, year, etc,) is called Chronobiology. It is in this context that we hear about the biological clock. It is not just humans but all creatures live according to this biological clock. By transgressing this clock, we invite trouble and give way to many diseases and disorders.
The history of biological clock is not too ancient, but it is certainly interesting. A French scientist named Jean-Jaques d’Ortous de Mairan discovered this biological clock in 1700 when he observed the leaves of certain plants shrinking and opening during night and day. In 1751, a Swedish botanist Kerelis Linijas found this to be true in some flowering plants. According to his report, the flowers of Hawk’s Beard used to blossom at three in the morning, whereas the flowers of Hawkbit did not blossom before seven in the morning. After this initial phase, a research scientist of Moscow named A. Chizovski reported in 1924 that the entire cycle of human activities is controlled by the movement of Sun and Moon. In that context, he also tried to analyze using Astrobiology. His work was banned in Soviet Union in 1930 in connection with the spying of Stalin and he was banished to Siberia. However, his findings were published forty years later.
Franz Halberg is considered to be the founder of ‘Circadian Rhythm’. He observed the human behavior and analyzed it in different phases. He found that some activities were controlled internally while some others were controlled by external circumstances. In plant kingdom, this behavior is observed in opening up of leaves and during photosynthesis. In animals this rhythm is observed through activities like eating, sleeping, reproduction, hibernation, migration etc. This rhythm can be of three types: (i) Infradian Rhythm, (ii) Ultradian Rhythm and (iii) Tidal Rhythm. Infradian rhythm is a long-term cycle. The menstrual cycle among women falls into this category. Ultradian rhythm is of smaller duration. Rapid Eye Movement (REM) during sleep follows a 60-minute cycle; nasal cycle is of 4 hours; hormonal secretion cycle is of 3 hours. Tidal rhythms are seen in regions near the oceans and the ebbs and tides are seen in cycles of 12 hours each.
Biological clock is very important and largely influences our daily life. Just like other creatures, man cannot be untouched by the effect of biological clock. In day to day life, there comes a time during which we feel hungry, feel sleepy, sad or happy. From bodily perspective, all actions like maintaining body temperature, thought process, hormonal secretion, etc happen involuntarily. One cannot sleep when there is light. Hence, the moment night sets in, one begins to feel sleepy. Sleep during the night is much deeper and relaxing compared to the nap during the day. In this way, sleep also follows a cyclic pattern and comes in its own time. If one transgresses his sleeping schedule, then it proves to be troublesome. People who work in night shifts; pilots who fly the airplanes during the night, etc suffer from distorted sleep cycle because of light and other external factors. To preserve the sleep cycle of astronomers, light and darkness are controlled during regular intervals.
In Polar Regions, where daytime lasts for 6 months and night for another 6 months, the cycle of creatures living in those regions is adjusted accordingly. The latest research done by University of Troms revealed that the biological clock of animals like Ptarmigan, Reindeer etc living in Polar Regions is controlled by monsoons. Our biological clock is indirectly controlled by Sun and Moon. The time we wake up is linked to the time of sunrise. During winter, Sun rises at around 7.00 or 7.30 AM while in summer sunrise happens at 5.00 or 5.30 AM. All creatures begin their day with sunrise. The tender rays of the sun motivate the plants to open up their leaves and they shrink after sunset. Lotus also blooms at sunrise and closes during the night. Sunflower follows the movement of the Sun.
All the details discussed above go to prove that the biological clock of each being is controlled by the solar cycle. Plants obtain their nourishment through the process of photosynthesis that occurs only during the presence of Sun. This process cannot be launched during the night even if stipulated heat and light are provided to the plant artificially. Mind feels pleasant and enthusiastic during sunny days, whereas it begins to lose its zeal with the onset of evening. This is a cyclic phenomenon that influences us each day of our life. This is called the biological clock. Biologists talk of finding the location of this Bioclock. According to them, this clock is located in the Hypothalamus of our brain. This is called suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). A trace of melanopsin that is found in this nucleus is responsible for our sleep cycle. If this organ is affected or stops functioning, then we will not be able to sleep during the night and end up sleeping at odd hours.
Biological clock is also related to the regulation of body temperature. This is regulated by Melatonin that is secreted by Pineal gland. Scientists say that the temperature of the body reaches its minimum 2 hours before sun rise. During the day, the amount of Melatonin in the body decreases. Since it controls our sleep cycle, we tend to sleep less during the day. But, the secretion of Melatonin begins at around 9 in the night and hence we begin to feel sleepy. It is found in highest amount at midnight.
The suprachiasmatic nucleus found in Hypothalamus is called the master clock since it controls all the life activities in our body. Other bio-clocks that assist the master clock are present in various parts of our body like – intestines, kidneys, liver, pancreas, spleen, thymus, skin etc. The bio-clocks found in these organs regulate the activities related to these organs. The bio-clock present in the intestines controls the hunger cycle. In general, all these bio-clocks perform their functions, but the moment daily routine is disturbed, they fail to function properly.

In present times, people from all strata of society are largely living irregular lifestyles resulting in disturbed bio-clocks. The first consequence of this life style manifests as insomnia or sleeplessness. Once the sleep cycle is disturbed, only a person who has undergone the torture can explain the difficulties involved in regaining sleep. Research and analysis show that disturbance in sleep cycle is related to increased number of road accidents. The number of accidents during the day is much more pronounced than those during the night. Those who sleep well in the night are at their best awareness during the day. Those who remain awake during the night are prone to losing control on the road during the day which leads to accidents.
Disturbed biological clock leads to insomnia and bipolar diseases. Bipolar is a mental disease because of which a person undergoes depression during regular intervals. Because of this, a person becomes sad, depressed, angry due to guilty conscience, dejected, tired, ill-tempered; and suffers from disturbances in sleep and hunger. When others are enjoying life, these people are entangled in complex emotions and lack the desire to do any activity. No amount of inspiration induces the zeal to work. This disease, which has emerged because of modern life style, is affecting children too. The number of children suffering from this disease in 2003 was 40 times that of children afflicted in 1994. This number has increased much more in the current year.
Biological clock is disturbed with disturbances in life style. Initially, it starts off as a slow process, but once it establishes its grip on its victim, all the symptoms listed above begin to manifest. This not only affects our body, but our mind and emotions are also adversely affected. Just as there is a physical cycle, there are emotional and intellectual cycles too. Physical cycle is of 23 days duration. This is called psycho-visination. This controls our capabilities, health and co-ordination. Emotional cycle is of 28 days duration. This regulates our creativity, emotions, moods and direct understanding. Intellectual cycle is of 33 days. This controls analysis, logic, memory and conversation.
If we observe these cycles, we will realize that a man experiences the same things during these regular cycles. When he is healthy he experiences these cycles, but when disorder in life style sets in, these experiences begin to become painful. For example, we can be in a worse mood than what we were 28 days before. We might not be able to exhibit the same intellectual expertise that we had 33 days before, because intellectual cycle repeats itself every 33 days. Ordinary man is so immersed in day to day activities and confusion that he does not realize these cycles.
The need of the hour is that we understand the rhythm of our biological clock which controls not only our body and mind but also our intellect. Not only can we resume the rhythm with right food habits, living habits and thinking habits, but we can also elevate and refine our life with each of the cycle. According to seers, the mystic scientists of yore, Brahma Muhurt is the period of transition. By sadhana and other activities, we can either enhance and make use of that time or waste it owing to our laziness. Biological clock is symbolic of how well we understand the cycles and get ready to welcome the next cycle. With self-restraint and sadhana we can reap the benefits or become prone to disease by lack of restraint. Hence, we have to organize our biological clock and enjoy the innumerable benefits that it offers.

Materialism and Spirituality: Two ways of Living= Pujya Gurudev

Materialism and Spirituality: Two ways of Living
·        Pt.ShriRam Sharma Acharya
(Akhand Jyoti Jan.Fab.03)

“There are two aspects of human life: one that relates to the physical body materialism; and the other that relates to the inner self (the soul) spirituality. Materialism means an inclination towards acquiring material possessions and comforts; in short, it is a tendency to lead a life in which pleasures of the body are given preference above anything else. Spirituality means, centred and established on the soul, that is, activities in life are decided keeping in mind the awakening of the soul.”
Normally a persons needs are fulfilled with limited materials such as food to satisfy hunger, few clothes to cover the body, a bed for rest, a house for shelter, etc.; anything over and above the basic needs either remains unused or is misused. For example, if a person who can eat four chapattis for lunch were given eight chapattis, it would be beyond his capacity to eat the extra four chapattis.
A single bed is enough for a person to sleep on; any more bed space would remain unused. Considering this, a few hours work is sufficient to satisfy bodys requirements. The same is true for senses also. There are five physical senses: touch, smell, taste, hearing and vision. No matter how beautiful a view may be, the eyes will tire of seeing it after a few minutes. The ears will not be able to listen to melodious music indefinitely. A person will be able to eat only a certain quantity of food of his liking.
Thus the senses have limited requirements, beyond which they become saturated. But senses are never satisfied they always crave for more. The mind is considered to be the sixth sense. Its attributes are greed, attachment (moha) towards worldly objects and people, and egoism. The mind experiences joy when these three attributes are attended to. Man generally engages his time and effort in satisfying the requirements of the body and the mind. The mind propels him to fulfill the three attributes and also employs the body in its schemes. This is not surprising, since satisfaction of the senses is a bodily requirement, and the mind is one of the senses.
The mind is different from the rest of the senses in that it is always unsatisfied and ambitious. New hopes and ambitions arise once the old ones are fulfilled. Suppose a person desires to buy a house. He would remain preoccupied with that thought because there is an attraction in it. Once a house is bought, the attraction fades. If a person does not have children, he would yearn for them; once he has children, they appear burdensome. A similar principle applies to other things, such as household items, clothes, etc and to attachment towards people. Therefore greed and attachment are attractive only until they are fulfilled. Egoism also follows a similar principle.
A secretary in a company feels his job status is low and aims for a higher status so that he can elevate his standing in the society. It is possible that several persons within the company may be trying for the same position. Therefore he becomes an enemy for them, since now he is an extra competitor in the race. In case he does succeed in fulfilling his egoistic desire in progressing towards his dream position, mental peace would elude him because there would be several people scheming to dislodge him. His ego thus becomes his own dangerous adversary.
The worth and importance of a well-mannered, disciplined person is obviously more than that of an egoistic person. No circumstances or individuals can challenge a gentleman, whereas examples of egoistic people suffering ruin can be seen all around us. A gentleman is respected while an egoistic person is ignored....
